  1. I dunno, could he be any worse than Chris Rock???

  2. Are we in a rush to the bottom? Seems so. We all know that Jon Stewart should be brought back. (Remember his remark, "Even Norbit got a nomination, which I think is great. Too often the Academy ignores movies that aren't good." Wonder if Eddie will say anything about that.)

How about Ellen DeGeneres? There was some talk about Billy Crystal doing it again.

Eddie Murphy just made a film with Brett Ratner. That's not how it should be decided.

  3. I loved Ellen as the host and would also like to see Billy return. I don't watch anymore anyway so I guess I shouldn't worry about who the host is...except the right one would draw me back!

  4. I'm being a bit disingenuous because for the most part I don't watch the Oscars, either. Oh, I might flip over to see if there are any interesting awards being given at the time, but I hate the red carpet hype, the song and dance acts, and the phoney comedy of the presenters. But what I dislike the most are the long, acceptance speeches. If one of y'all ever win, just tighten it up: "Thank you, very much. This is an honor I would like to dedicate to my good friends at ItsJake/Its Tish," then step off. Always leave wanting more.

  5. Wait a minute, I really MUST be slow - when did this get confirmed?? Last I read anything, Billy Crystal was thinking about it and Eddie Murphy's name got tossed in the mix as a joke......

Yikes! Eddie Murphy hosting the Oscars! Sounds about as disasterous as James Franco and Anne Hathaway's last hosting gig-

  6. Eddie is in as the host. I do pretty much the same as TT, look in once in awhile to see if any interesting awards being presented but otherwise find the whole thing a major bore. To little ol' me the focus seems to be more in who the host is than about the awards themselves. I do believe they go off the track sometimes with who gets the awards but that's just my opinion. What's missing to me is the focus on the awards as they seem to become second to the host, the "entertainers" etc. - just my two bits worth. I do agree Judes, I loved Ellen too. She has away of getting her inclusiveness (without being intrusive) for all across - her "bit" when she went into the audience and had Speilberg take her pic with Eastwood (I think that's how that went) and their easy banter (Clint involoved "Marty" Scorsese too) was simply charming to me. Not certain you can put the lightning in a bottle everytime but her presentation worked for me.

  7. I completely agree with you Roc.

Back in the day, when I was just a wee 20ish thang, my friends all had crazy Oscar parties where we would dress up and drink champagne out of plastic champagne glasses and have streamers and party hats. We would screech at the dresses and the morons that droned on and on.....
I think the key to getting through the entire "pompousness" is to be completely and utterly sloshed! LOL!

  8. IDK, Judes & Roc. My daughter and her friends used to have wonderful Oscar parties too. But now her group all have young children, and they're not the type to dress the kids up as nominees...which would be a terrifically fun idea. (Also useful for pets.)

Ellen was the best, even better than Jon Stewart who was the next best. Last year's hosts were an embarrassment.
