The email is being difficult, so I say here, Tish, that the dress desired is SOMETHING. Wow.
Tell her that I had to ask a boy to go with me, he was a year younger (oh, the embarrassment), his mother drove us, and he was famous at our school for having sucked his thumb until he was 14.
I woke up to the realization that yesterday was 4/20. Being an old coot I was oblivious, but my grand announced, "Most of my friends are calling in sick to school to allow for an appropriate celebration." "And you?" I asked. "I'm going to school, they're wack."
longingforjake, my grand announced to me last week, I could date any guy in school I set my mind on. Really, grandma, I'm cute and I'm popular with everyone from the football players to scene kids. She's actually dating a guy whose a freshman in college who has given his blessing to her going to the prom with another guy...after Sammy threatened to break up with him. So she chose a guy who drives a sports car, will do anything for her, and would desperately like to really be her boyfriend. NOTHING like my teen experience. Remember, I was very, very shy. The boy next door took me to the prom. I not only didn't like him, I was rather repelled by him. But I wanted to go to the prom.
I would have been proud to have taken any of you to the prom - especially you W4G in that dress! LOL! Alas, I did not go to the prom. Self image issues and absolutely no money to buy something to wear yet alone a corsage etc. I found out near the end of my senior year that one of the 5 girls I told you about before would have gone with me. No one asked this one girl (who was just beautiful & rocked SUCH a body!) to go and some other girls got another guy to ask her and she went with him. Turns out one of the girls I knew was trying to get clueless me to go over to this girls house when we were on the Yearbook staff together. I just never did it and such is life...I'm kinda glad I didn't go the the prom with Sandi as I would have been so overwrought with love for her, it would have just crushed me to move away (I went to AR with my parents after I graduated from high school). Besides, I knew she was going to UC Davis and no way was I going to manage that....sigh, still a pleasant thought just to know she was willing! As for MJ, tried that in college days but the smoke hurt my lungs too much - I know, what a wimp. I could have had it in brownies etc. but thought I had enough issues to deal with already.
I am NOT a wimp, thank you very much! And not for lack of trying BB, it does something funky to my body. Last time I didn't even smoke it-I ate brownies, passed out, hit the floor and broke my elbow. That was the last time I bothered with Maryjane. I went to the prom with my future 1st husband. He got drunk and I had to drive us home. But the following year, I went with my best friend as her date because the asswipe she asked cancelled on her 2 hours before the prom started. I rented a white tuxedo, bought her a corsage and asked her parents if I could borrow their 1975 Buick. Let me tell you the stir we caused walking into an all girls school prom-Sister Judith Murphy took me aside and said it wasn't appropriate. I had to explain to her AND the dean why I did it and only then did they let me stay. That prom was even more fun than mine the year before!! I will ask Karen if she still has pics so I can show you all!
Tisha, u took the words right out of my mouth - hope we get to see some pics. and i'm so glad Judes stood-up to that nun.
And Roc, thanks for the compliment. although the honor would have been all mine if u had taken me to the prom. we probably would have been crowned prom king and queen!
on a more serious note, i had self-image problems in HS too. thankfully, we all grew out of that.
That's it? I'd think the list is actually a lot longer.
ReplyDeleteLet's start another list. Toothy Cult members who have gotten high on weed. (raises hand)

ReplyDeleteas for your other question Tisha, hand held high waving back and forth!!!!

I realized it was 4/20 BB!
ReplyDeleteHand raised from about 25 years ago. Me and Maryjane do not mix well. Everytime I visited with her, I passed out and bruised/broke something.
Reiterating my email to P, I'm glad I have a boy and don't have to worry about dresses of ANY kind-LOL!
Funny, funny story LFJ! That will keep me smiling for awhile today-
OK, over and out for now. Janey gave me the evil eye when I asked to borrow her phone on my bathroom run. Everybody have a good day!!

Judes, way before her time. I'm proud of you, gurl, rocking that same sex dating scene, even if it was only for appearance.
