Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011)
she was quite the dame and a fine actress - may she r.i.p.
Liz and Michael were friends and it seems she stood by him through his "troubles". I just LUV this picture, I'm a real fan of black and white photography and this is such an iconic photo of her. RIP Liz, you hit the mark very well!
I don't think Liz was a great actress. In fact, she's one of the "if she can win an Oscar, anyone can" examples I use. But she was a phenomenon long before Angelina or any of those who followed. And she used her fame and fortune for good, without plastering her face in the media for doing it. She made a lot of mistakes in her life but owned up to them all and was a faithful friend to the many she befriended. Her passing marks the end of an era.
glad u liked the pic Roc...it's from the movie Suddenly Last Summer one of my favorite movies. i disagree with you Tisha on her acting abilities...there will never be another Maggie the Cat. and please don't compare her to A.J.
list of her greatest performances: Suddenly Last Summer, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, Butterfield 8.
off topic but i was checking-out AT for the first time in days...have u noticed how the # of comments are declining? even the ones for the twitard threads?!? a year from now bibby will be a valet, parking cars for the celebrities he used to allegedly interview.
oh, how could i have forgotten Grace Kelly?!? ahame on me...such beauty, charm, class and elegance. maybe not one of her best movies but i loved her opposite Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock's Rear Window.
From today's AT: Dear Ted: I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Elizabeth Taylor, a class act all the way. Who in your opinion would be her successor in Hollywood today, if she had one? —Jana
Dear Death of an Icon: Well Kim Kardashian did recently interview Elizabeth Taylor in Harper's Bazaar and has always called Taylor "her idol." But we certainly aren't suggesting that Kim has all it takes to be iconic like Taylor. Someone like Angelina Jolie would be much better, but she needs more husbands. My second post (Bibby deleted my first post):

I say again Ted, you really jumped the skank shark with the Kardassholeian mention in the same breath as Elizabeth Taylor. No one needs to be told that nasty piece of work doesn't have what it takes to be an icon * gee, really??? LOL! You need to check your value system dude as you are appealing to the lowest common denominator to get posts in the AT. It's a shame as this used to be a fun place to visit. Be a man and leave my post up.
So we will see if he leaves my post up this time....
And did you see Bibby's post about the day that "Elizabeth seduced" him? First of all, a deliberate misuse of the term seduce, and second of all, as usual, it always has to be about him.
yes, it always has to be about him when it should be all about ME!!! LOL
still can't believe that Bibby had the nerve to mention Liz & Kim in the same sentence let alone compare the two. omg, what the fuck is this world coming to?!?
It still astounds me how many people watch that show. A few comments are,"it's like watching a trainwreck" or "it's just a guilty pleasure". There are also a very large number of young women that admire her....go figure! Oh well (not soon enough) they will eventually become overexposed and people will finally get bored with them.
thanks Tisha & lfj for your compliments on my new avatar - came across the pic accidently while surfing the web. would like to find a picture-size version to hang on my wall.
lfj, today here is your kind of weather...can't get much gloomier and pouring rain.
Judes is having some paranormal activity going on in her new apt...i think she has a poltergist! i try to be as logical and rational as possible but i do believe that such things may exist.
Naw, as tempting as it is sometimes to believe in that shit, would YOU stick around if you passed on to another world? I'd only come back for those I love, and certainly not to harasss folks.
Although I DO tell that story about the person combing her hair in the middle of the night in my daughter's apartment.
Here's my granddaughter talking: Shit was definitely happening in our old apartment, like the doors we closed in the morning would all be open when we came home and stuff would be flung everywhere. And I saw someone or something, all the time when I was little, but I don't remember much about it now.
One of our "frequent fliers" kept reporting that "a buck naked ghost" came down from her ceiling at night and cut her hair. We researched the history of the property and any deaths that might have happened on the site: nada.
Is your "frequent flier" on a lot of medication and/or elderly? When my mother broke her hip and I was living with my parents to take care of her, my father would get up in the middle of the night about twice a week saying he heard my mother calling him (she'd be sound asleep) or that he heard the doorbell ring (not).
A young woman, not known to use drugs. From the beginning, I felt it was her mental illness but the sweet officer who dealt with her was so sincere that the search was undertaken -- he did a lot of it.
Parkinson meds can cause bizarre hallucinations -- a man here on them dialed 911 because he was seeing dolls everywhere in his house -- on the furniture, counters, bed. Every object in his house became a doll.
As you might guess, my advice (as always) to Judes is a little bit of gris-gris gumbo ya-ya.
"They say," Teddy? Like anyone knows. It's the great mystery. I believe that Arthur Ashe said just before he died so young that it was the great adventure.
Although my brother said his wife visited him very vividly in his dreams for two years after she died. It was a very loving haunting. Sometimes it was so real that he would wake up crying.
What kind of Buddhist are you, Teddy? Wanting to torment people after your death. Aren't you seeking detachment?
I hear that w4g is back from Reese's wedding with a slice of wedding cake to put under his pillow. I hope he brought a sweater because I hear it was damp and chilly in Ojai.
Maybe he'll share his cake with you Judes, just to cheer you up. Remember what doesn't kill you, makes you want to commit murder...or something like that. So be careful.
good luck at work tomorow Judes - i would have shared my piece of wedding cake w/you but Jake insisted on feeding it to me while we were in bed. he is such the sweetheart!
One of kind, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteProbably not completely on the same wave length as the rest of you on this, although I did admire her in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf."
ReplyDeleteWhat was the connection between her and Michael Jackson?
Great story, TT.
Liz and Michael were friends and it seems she stood by him through his "troubles".

ReplyDeleteoff topic again, but whoever thinks that Roc should replace Charlie Sheen on Two & a Half Men please raise their hand.
ReplyDeletehand raised!
ReplyDeleteI'm honored...I think, no I am!
ReplyDeleteI've always aspired to be bat shit crazy....
ReplyDeleteand i think u have met that aspiration quite well Rocster!
ReplyDeleteand making millions while going nutso, well all the better!
ReplyDeletewell Roc, it looks as tho us men are ruling my blog today...and the smell of testosterone is in the air!!!
ReplyDeleteI always thought Grace Kelly was the most elegant and beautiful movie star of that time.
ReplyDeleteLauren Bacall can still do it to it! Remember her playing herself on "The Sopranos"?
oh, how could i have forgotten Grace Kelly?!? ahame on me...such beauty, charm, class and elegance. maybe not one of her best movies but i loved her opposite Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock's Rear Window.
ReplyDeleteNow, we're talking. Or "To Catch a Thief" or "Dial M for Murder"?
ReplyDeleteI doubt that was a more beautiful young woman than Grace Kelly when she was young. No doubt.

ReplyDeleteI saw that - Bibby desperation seems palatable or maybe he's just operating completely at the level of the twishits.
ReplyDeleteyes, it always has to be about him when it should be all about ME!!! LOL
ReplyDeletestill can't believe that Bibby had the nerve to mention Liz & Kim in the same sentence let alone compare the two. omg, what the fuck is this world coming to?!?
The world is coming to promotion, Teddy. Kim Kardashian's show (spits) is part of the E Entertainment network.

ReplyDeleteKim K will eventually become over exposed? Pardon me, isn't that how she got started?
ReplyDeleteTeddy, I love your new avatar. Purr fec tion!
ReplyDeleteI agree with TT on w4g's new avatar. Classsssy.

ReplyDeleteEstragon: "We're all born mad. Some remain so."
Judes, how goes the settling in?
ReplyDeleteHere: snowing, melting, snowing, melting, more snow to come, more melting.
Hang on, winter and clouds, just a little longer.
Tell it like it is, Roc!

ReplyDeletetisha, i'd stick around for those i disliked so i could haunt the shit outta them!!! lol
ReplyDeletegot out my herbal magic book and e-mailed Judes one of several ways to get rid of spirits...
ReplyDeleteand tisha, they say that sometimes spirits get stuck in between this world and the next. in fact, i think i'm stuck!!!!
