Any movies coming out you are excited about? Heard about and sound interesting?

70 comments:

  1. there are several movies coming out that i'm excited about but one that sticks in my mind is Burlesque with Cher (hey, i'm gay ain't i?!?). anyway, i think it will either be godawful like Showgirls (Elizabeth Berkeley never did recover fully from that monstrousity) or very good. altho she is primarily know for being a singer, Cher actually can act. wish she would have made more movies. i remember the first movie she ever made titled Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Cher held her ground with actresses like Sandy Dennis ("it's deceiving to the eye")& Karen Black. my favorite quote from that film: "well, i hope you found what u came looking for."

  2. I've seen a few clips from the film and its for sure Cher can still act. But Christina Aguilera can't. Her singing is fantastic though.

  3. Showgirls!! OMG and Starship Troopers! Two of the most God awful, funniest, campiest movies EVUH!!!

    "Nobody has Cristal's heat"

"I'm dyin' Johnny, but it's ok because I got to have you"

Oh ship, I laughed out my last piece of lung.

I really want to see Red.

    ReplyDelete
  4. LOL, see I laughed so hard I couldn't even spell shit-

    HA!

    ReplyDelete
  5. i hope you all aren't disappointed in Red. i really liked it but that's my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  6. w4g! Way to stick by your opinions, fella. There are two things I value the most in a film, it's story and performance. This one looks like a quirkily funny story with great performances. I'd say that there's always the popcorn but I read a piece about how many calories are in theatre popcorn and I've sworn off. (Here's a clue, they serve it to you in bucket, a BUCKET.)

    ReplyDelete
  7. oh Tisha, eat that popcorn and enjoy yourself...but i gotta admit the prices the theaters charge are outrageous!!! i sneak my candy in...

  8. Here's one I was going to send to Judes. IDK where you live in metropolitan Chicago, Judes, but "Contagion" is filming in Downers Grove & Elgin. "Contagion" is a film with a "cast of stars" as they used to say. http://www.beforethetrailer.com/2010/10/more-filming-locations-in-elgin-and-downers-grove-for-contagion-with-matt-damon-this-fall/

I wrote a little comment on IMDb for this film that it reminds me of "The Towering Inferno," from 1974. Anyone remember that one? Starring
    Paul Newman
    William Holden
    Faye Dunaway
    Fred Astaire
    Susan Blakely
    Richard Chamberlain
    Jennifer Jones
    O.J. Simpson
    Robert Vaughn
    Robert Wagner

Fred Astaire even got a Supporting Actor nomination. The film was nominated for Best Picture and it even won three, for editing, music, and special effects. Boy! What a turkey. Overacting, melodrama, crappy script. Whenever someone tells you that you should admire an actor or a film simply because of an Oscar nomination or win, just think "The Towering Inferno."

Anyway "Contagion" will star Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburn, Bryan Cranston, Elliot Gould, & Demetri Martin.

  9. Oh, oh, I forgot, TI also starred Steve McQueen. Do yourself a favor, watch the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsRnQQpklPM

    ReplyDelete
  10. my ex-best friend used to live in Elgin.

Tisha, there's got to be a morning after...oh wait, wrong movie, that was the Poseiden Adventure.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Here's the song that won the 1974 Oscar for Best Song from TI: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxZPru1HxNo

The quality says it all about this movie and the 1970's. God, I was young and slender and I threw it away on the 1970's. Too sad.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tisha, did u watch Raising Hope tonite? It was a repeat of the hilarious, but touching, first episode.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I started to watch it, but only got through to the execution. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  14. OK, then I'll go online and watch the rest. Anything to please my Sweet Prince who asks so little of me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Done! It turns out I'd already seen all of the first episode in clips. But I missed Nick Swardson so I'm staying up to see the rebroadcast in 1/2 hour.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've found the upcoming movie of the year.
    UNSTOPPABLE.

Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, "We're going to run this bitch down."

What a cheese fest. Here's the trailer
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM-0Ywc7wNY

How movies like this get made (much less why) and financing and publicity and distribution. Yea gods.

    ReplyDelete
  17. yea, and Denzel's last movie was Pelham 123...ring a bell?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I saw the trailer for Unstoppable on the telly last nite. I wasn't wearing my glasses so I had to get up close and personal to see Chris Pine. It does look like a cheesefest, but a really good cheesefest. The new one with Matt Damon and Bryce Dallas Howard looks like it could be either a cheesefest or a total tear jerker. Don't know if I could watch it because I get palpitations watching any kind of watery death scenes. I had a devil of a time trying to watch Poseiden Adventure. I loved the Towering Inferno, I think I was about 12 or 13 when it came out.
Downers Grove is a ways south of me and Elgin is a 40 - 50 minute hike west. I'm in West Rogers Park, which is the very Northern tip of Chicago. I'm very close to the borders of Evanston and Skokie, could walk to them in fact.

In addition to your wonderful, useful and always appreciated opinions BB, Red looks appealing to me movie-wise. I am looking forward to it.

I have nasty meetings again today-ugh-so I hope you all at least have a great day. I will try and check in with you guys later on.

I wonder what happened to Roc and LFJ again?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Saying Rogers Park is sufficient, Judes. I'm a native Chicagoan. I lived in Rogers Park just before and just after I was married. I loved hopping on a bus and going into Evanston. Come to think of it, my first born was born in Evanston Hospital.

Roc and lfj, if you're reading this...and I know you are...jump in with some thoughts for the day, movies you love, or love to hate, and/or some good gossip.

    ReplyDelete
  20. LOL Patricia, now you know there's a HUGE difference between East Rogers Park and West Rogers Park! It's the whole Northside/Southside premise of an individual neighborhood-

Jean Claude Van Damme had a mild heart attack. How's that for ironic?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Don't worry about Van Damme, he reportedly had some tightness in his chest and drove himself to the hospital quite a few weeks ago. The movie he was working on only needed a wrap and they are working around him. He is supposedly home with his wife in Belgium. A few hookers around the film shoot will just have to deal with an income shortage.

Well then, Judes, I guess I was in East Rogers Park because I was almost on the lake, two blocks south of the Chicago/Evanston border. From there I moved to Wrigleyville for about a year or so, because once my last name was hispanic, no one else would rent to my small family and me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. hey Tisha, why didn't u just use one of your aliases?!? :-D

and thank you all for giving me a geographical history of Chicago (yawnin'). ;-D

i still wonder if lfj is really itsjake. i know the french seems to be a tip-off but the itsjake i knew would never play games. as for the Rocster, he'll be back. he just comes and goes.

as for Van Damme, i hope nothing awful happens to him...well, at least not until his movie is a wrap.

    ReplyDelete
  23. btw, i'm thru w/the AT. bibby has just become a mere parody of himself.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You said you weren't sure where I was in Chicago BB so Patricia and I drew you a map-LOL!

Van Damage is disputing the heart attack stories already so who knows what really happened. I hope he's ok too.

Do you need a pedicure today Beloved Boss?

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes, my sweet Judes, a pedicure would be nice. i could also use a back rub...my back hurts from leaning over the pc all day...but, like u said, it's better than meetings!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Squish, mash, pound, pucker-I'm giving you a virtual backrub BB!

Ask Ric to take care of you tonight. I think you need fuzzy mules and Bonbons my Beloved Boss. I sure know I do-

Hope you feel better in awhile! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. First of all, OF COURSE Van Damme disputes the heart attack story. He still thinks he's a 25 year old stud. I laugh whenever I see a pic of him still doing the split kick. Any dancer can do it too.

Second of all, Chicago is divided into neighborhoods, for the most part each with their own traditions and snobbery. I now live about 30 miles south of the southern most tip of the city, Hegewisch. That's like saying I live in Siberia to most Chicagoans. But Jude babe lives in the elitist far northern most part.

3rd, I seriously considered using my maiden name to view properties, but quickly decided I didn't want to live with such snobs. My family rented the second story of a two flat from an elderly Greek couple. The wife baked me almond cookies as an excuse to come up and see the baby. They were absolute dears. For over 10 years afterward there was always a friend or a friend of friend renting that apartment on our recommendation. Renting to us was the wisest choice the landlords made.

    ReplyDelete
  28. my hotmail keeps going up and down today...really pisses me off!

thanks for the pedicure and the virtual back rup my dear Judes....mmmmm...felt very good! although i must admit that Ric gives one hellava backrub. but i ain't got no fuzzy mules or bonbons and that ain't good!!!

so Tisha, are u telling me that Judes is a snob cause she lives in the elite part of town? how dare u say such a thing about my sweet Judes. come over here so i can slap you. ;-) awww...u know i'd never do that to you and if i did i would kiss it and make it feel all better. ;-D besides, i'm a lover, not a fighter.

btw, am also lookin' forward to seeing Hereafter starring Matt Damon and directed my clint Eastwood.

here's a neat quote that a friend of a friend of mine posted on her facebook page:

"I’m a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being… by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private part...s is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant.” – Paul Newman

what a gentleman Paul Newman was...found it so sad that his passing went by with just a slight murmer while someone the likes of Michael Jackson got all this praise and adoration. sick, i tell u all, sick!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Big Daddy to Brick in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (one of my all time favorites): Why do u drink Brick? Brick replies: I drink because of mendacity. Big daddy says: mencacity? what the hell is mendacity? To which Brick replies: mendacity, lies and liars.

mendacity is one of my favorite words...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, Paul Newman was one of a kind. Also rumored to be bi. But as he said, who the hell cares?

Teddy, the genuine ones pass by with a whisper. That's because the PR train doesn't drive the show. It's just genuine emotion that people keep rather private.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i would have been honored to have been in his presence at least once.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nah, she's not saying I'm a snob. I just live on the snobby side of town! There is a great rivalry between the North and South siders, it's legendary in fact. We had the same problem trying to rent apartments Patricia. My maiden name is Cordova. My mother always had to rely on her womanly wiles to get us a decent place to live and we were screwed if the landlord was a woman.

Fantastic quote from Paul Newman, one of the few real people ever in HW.

I don't understand bashing of any kind. A person is a person no matter what color, gender, size or choice of a lover. What difference does any of that make? The essence of the person and how they enrich my life is what really matters to me.
Nuff said or my tangent alarm will go off.

Hope your back is better today BB!
Hope I didn't offend you yesterday Patricia, I didn't mean to in any way.

    ReplyDelete
  33. hey Tisha & Judes, guess which one of u i'm staying with if i ever make it up to Chicago? (giggles)

and Tisha, is it true that Al Capone lived in your house? do u remeber that stupid song, the Night Chicago Died?

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL Beloved Boss, I know where you will go first and that is perfectly fine. My door is always open to you!

13 nah nah nahs, the night Chicago died. Brother what a sight it really was, brother what a night it really was....the night Chicago died.
    Truly an awful song-

Where one earth is our dearest Patricia today?
Makes me nervous when she hasn't surfaced by noon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. her brother just got into town so she might be over at her parents' house.

hey baby, i'm staying w/you cause u live in the elite part of town plus u give a great pedicure. and i'll even take your spawn to Pinero's for mac & cheese!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey, hey. I do have a life, such as it is.

#1- I doubt you are capable of offending me or anyone, Judes.

#2- Funny you should bring up Al Capone, Teddy. When he was a boy, my childhood best friend's father lived in the same building in Chicago as Al Capone's brother. And Hegewisch, the southern most Chicago neighborhood, which is about 15 miles north of my home, has a pair of beautiful complimentary brick homes across from a golf course. The story is that there's an underground tunnel connecting the two because a mobster lived in one, and his bodyguards lived in the other. But most of old timey gangsters lived in the town of Cicero which is a western suburb.

    ReplyDelete
  37. ya know, i love both u guys so much!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, w4g, we know. I'm not into that whole "sister wife" thingy the Mormoms have but I can definitely see being just one of your handmaids. Judes gets the toes because that is just yucky to me. I'll do the neck massage. Hmmm, what does that leave Ric? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. LOL, gangsters STILL live in Cicero-

Hmmm, I'm likin' the handmaid title. I'm junior cuz I was second-Patricia is ALWAYS first-LOL!

Good, I thought I said something I shouldn't have yesterday. Have fun with your bro Patricia!

    We love you mostest BB!

    ReplyDelete
  40. who needs Ric when i have the both of you? :-D

    having handmaidens...now that's so kewl!!!

OMG, Tisha has a life!!!! Now when did that happen? (Teddy says this sarcastically to himself).

almost done with my inventory lists. won't get anymore till Monday which will give me a lil break. will be going to Atl. on saturday to get some of my stuff out of storage to bring back up here. hey Judes, could you send your handsome husband down to help us out? i promise, no touching. i'll just lust after him from afar. (giggles) i's sooooooooo bad.

    ReplyDelete
  41. btw Tisha, you should be glad that Judes cares enuf about ya to worry about ya.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes, yes, Judes. Thanks for caring. It's better than my mother's phone call, "Where the hell are you?" She's 90 so she doesn't care anymore...not that she didn't talk that way as long as I've known her.

If there's no touching, what's the incentive, TeddyBear?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tisha, nothing wrong with eye candy is there?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think you know my opinion about vicarious pleasure, Sweet Prince.

    ReplyDelete
  45. LOL, I'll sell him to you for a dollar-
I'm sure he would love to be your eye candy BB!
My hubby is a baaaaaad boy-

Your mama sounds good and crusty Patricia, bless her heart!

Nikita is on tonight, my female object of lust Ms. skinny Maggie Q. Hoohah!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Judes, just a dollar??? now that's what i call a bargain!!!!! oh, and i love me a baaaad boy!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, w4g, it takes one to know one.

    ReplyDelete
  48. bad boys, bad boys...what u gonna do when they come for you?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Nasty, nasty boys, don't mean a thing

    Oh you nasty boys

Nasty, nasty boys, don't ever change

    Oh you nasty boys

    ReplyDelete
  50. LOL, you guys are crazy!!!

Thank you sweet Lord it's finally Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Psst, Teddy, don't tell Judes it's supposed to rain all weekend in Chicago.

I've found a film I AM really excited to see, Clint Eastwood's Hereafter. I've read some real trash about this film, but I enjoy Clint's POV so I think I'll go see it rather than Red.

    ReplyDelete
  52. did u see my previous post about the Hereafter? it, too, is one of the movies i wanna see...so fuck Red, huh? why doncha just go to one of those big multi-plexes and sneak into the next movie after the first one is over. they never check. i've done it before.

for some reason, i'm in a foul mood today. don't know why.

btw Judes, i saw where you cashed my check for $1.00. now pay-up, where's your husband? tell him supper is at 6pm.

    ReplyDelete
  53. OK, I will tell him to be there. Maybe if he starts flappin' his arms now, he'll make it by next week.

Smile Beloved Boss, it's Friday and it probably won't rain by you until Sunday (thanks for the heads up Patricia!).

    :)

  54. My teeth are already chattering, my eyes don't quite focus, and I have a tremor in my hands. That's withdrawal from ItsJake. No computer unless I can get a geek out to recusicate it. LOOOOOng weekend for me without you two. Send me smoke signals, better yet when Jules husband flies over to Teddy he can be my carrier pidgeon.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tisha, it's Judes, not Jules...get w/the program.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Cut her some slack BB, she's computerless and that would make even the best of us jumpy!! Besides, I've been called worse! Get a geek ASAP Patricia, I feel funky without you.
Sorry BB, I'm not quite as entertaining as your Princess, but I will do my best until she returns.

Oh, you will get a kick out of this-the title of last night's Supernatural episode was "Live Free or Twi-hard". Funny as hell-

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sorry, Judes. I'm typing on my father's PC. He has the brightest lighting system that bothers my eyes something fierce. I'm bound to be spelling half the things I type incorrectly. I'll drop in a couple of times a day to see if anything is popping. My computer geek is busy and hasn't contacted me yet.

    ReplyDelete
  58. well, finally got back from Atl. to get some of my stuff out of storage. took a lil longer than expected because i was short one hunk who was supposed to come down to help me out. hmmm...hope i can get my dollar back!!! just as well i guess. i was in the middle of a strange situation as Ric, of course was there, along with one of my ex's who came over to help load. if looks could kill!!! oh, it ain't easy being me.

hey JuLes, love the title of the Supernatural episode. and i'm sure u will do well with entertaining me until Tisha gets her pc fixed. bet it's driving her crazy!!! and, let's face it, she's already in the car. wonder if she weant to see Hereafter today.

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOVED "Hereafter." It had some weaknesses, for one, who wants to see Jay Mohr on the big screen...he's all bloated head already. But overall the acting was excellent, the stories interesting, and of course Clint Eastwood was continuing in his exploration of the depths of being human, which he's been doing off and on since he started directing movies. I also watched Invictus last night on cable and boy was it awful. Anyway, both films atarred Matt Damon. Nothing could have saved Invictus. But in Hereafter Damon is the perfect Everyman.

As promised, it's raining here. My parents are off to church so I have access to the computer for a few hours.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Nuh uh, no refunds-no exchanges-all sales final!!! Glad your little excursion didn't include anything more than killer looks BB. Although the tension level was probably at the top of the charts for the rivals. You, I'm sure, were loving every minute of it. :)

Hello Patricia! If it is raining by you then I have at least an hour before it gets here. I will run out quickly then. So Hereafter wasn't cheesey? I thought it would either be a cheesefest or a cryathon. Watched the first 10 minutes of Invictus and turned it off. It didn't even have the let's see if this gets better thing going for it.
If Geeksquad was so damn expensive, I'd send you one personally! Hope you are up and running soon because I can't possible keep BB satisfied all by myself! :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. If Geeksquad WASN'T so damn expensive. Sheesh, I need more coffee since I can't spell yet-

    ReplyDelete
  62. No cheese at Hereafter. I found each of three stories that the film wraps around interesting. Matt carried off this role well. And there was a very gorgeous French actress for 1/3, and a pair of twin British boys for the other 1/3. I like Clint Eastwood's introspective POV. The strangers walking out of the theare with me were all talking about how much they enjoyed it too.

    ReplyDelete
  63. hey Tisha, did those strangers have any candy? :-D

    ReplyDelete
  64. No, no strangers with candy. And I didn't see Amy Sedaris or Stephen Colbert there either.

But I love Amy's first book and can't wait to get my hands on the new one.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Judes and I will be awaiting your full return to the net w/abating breath!!! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  66. Judes, you are failing miserably in your attempt to keep me entertained while Tisha is on sabbatical. just sayin'...

    ReplyDelete
  67. I said I couldn't do it alone, you are waaaay too much man for me to handle!
    :)
